Romain Poncelet

Leadership Bio

Romain Poncelet joined MicroPort Orthopedics in 2025 as Senior Director of Global Medical Education.

Dr. Poncelet is a board-certified trauma and orthopedic surgeon with a strong passion for integrating cutting-edge medical technologies with top-tier clinical education to improve patient outcomes. He brings to MicroPort over a decade of experience in both clinical orthopedics and medical affairs, with particular expertise in robotic-assisted surgery.

Romain began his career in trauma and orthopedic surgery, completing his residency in Trauma Surgery at Klinikum Ernst von Bergmann and in Orthopedic Surgery at Sana Kliniken Sommerfeld, where he later served as a consultant. He transitioned into the medical device industry with Medtronic Surgical Robotics, where he held progressively senior roles, including Senior Customer Training Specialist, Medical Affairs Program Manager (EMEA), and, most recently, Global Medical Affairs Manager for robotic-assisted surgery. In these roles, he led global training initiatives, helped design FDA IDE studies, supported international congresses, and worked cross-functionally with marketing, regulatory, R&D, and commercial teams.

Dr. Poncelet earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Universität Otto von Guericke, Magdeburg, and completed his preclinical and clinical medical studies at Université Paris VII – Sorbonne, where he also received his license to practice medicine. He holds board certifications in both Traumatology and Orthopedic Surgery from the Landeärztekammer Brandenburg, and is ICH-GCP certified as a clinical investigator. He is fluent in French, German, and English.
